Seperate stems

Sibelius beginners can discuss all things Sibelius here ("how do I...?").

I'm desperate to know how to do stems seperate for two notes on the same beat, I want to include a drum part and I want to do it properly but i don't know how to get the top line of notes so they're not attached to the bottom.

Hi AltoSaxKid

I think what you need to do is split the music into separate voices. This way you have rhythmic independence of the parts (up to 4 of them in one staff). In particular, you'll want to move some music out of voice 1 into, typically, voice 2.

To do this, you select a note, go to 'Edit-Voice-' then select a number, or use Alt, or the Mac equivalent, and the number. This will put that note in the new voice, and probably give you some new rests to play with as well around that note for the input of other stuff. Then if you have stems up and you want them down, hit the flip key (default X).

Let me know whether this helps or not,

Julio
