Inputting triangle

I can't for the life of me figure out how to input triangle (using a usb keyboard) so that I can notate open/choked triangle beats. The General MIDI Drumkit says use F#5 and G5 for choked/open, but I can't get them to sound like anything except an open triangle beat. What's the knack for this? I'm entering it on a single-line orchestral triangle staff - is that the problem, and if so, how do I solve it?

Sibelius 6.2 on a mac.
