Quick Forum Question (newbie)
I don't know! I've not updated past 7.1.3 on one machine and still have 6.2 as my main installation.
So I have no intention of going to 7.5. It's a question that you could ask over on the official forum. One of the regulars will tell you what the differences are!

Ok, cheers Andy.
The next level up will probably be too advanced for me anyway! lol

Paul.
The main differences in 7.5.1are some bug fixes, and some updated sounds. They've also added a timeline which some people like. Considering the upgrade is about $50, I think it is worth it. I hope you have a hefty enough computer to handle full Sibelius 7.1.3 sounds.

Thanks Bop,
Both my Windows PC's have 500GB (but of course some of these amounts have been used). I already have Sibelius 7 installed on both of them without any issues.
But does the 7.5 come with extra sounds?
Cheers,
Paul

If you need more sounds, there are, as I'm sure you know, probably thousands of virtual instruments and sound libraries out there that you could use.
Not all will have Sibelius soundsets to enable seamless use with Sibelius, of course. Manual soundset creation has never been something that's appealed to me, so I use Sibelius sounds alongside Garritan's GPO, Jazz and Big Band, and Concert and Marching band libraries, plus IK's Philharmonik. All of these come with soundsets, except for Philharmonik's soundset which is a low cost purchase.
Mind you, I only ever use Sib for notation and audition. Cubase is used for all recordings and then I have a shedload more instruments at my beck and call.

Hi Andy,
Well I have Cubase Artist along with the HALion Sonic presets library. So thats what I use for my personal backing-tracks.
For playback/checking any of my Sibelius scores, the Sibelius presets library is fine for me. I suppose if I wanted to use one of my Sibelius scores as a personal backing-track, then I could Export it as a Midi File, Import it into Cubase Artist, and then substitute all the sounds with HALion presets.
Cheers,
Paul

I think this may be a SPAM message!?fifalife wrote:Hi , i am from china

You could indeed do that but as you clearly have the keyboard skills, the backing track will sound even better if you print out the score and replace at least part of the MIDI file with live playing. Bass line is the first thing that comes to mind!monsterjazzlicks wrote:I suppose if I wanted to use one of my Sibelius scores as a personal backing-track, then I could Export it as a Midi File, Import it into Cubase Artist, and then substitute all the sounds with HALion presets.
And do remember that sound libraries, like the Garritan ones for example, work fine with both Sibelius and Cubase. I never use Halion that much these days.

Thanks Andy,
Well, yes, playing parts in live will always generate more feeling and humanism into a MIDI arrangement.
I mostly use the NORD and ROLAND XV50/50 (module) for making tracks. HALion is OK, but its more easier and convenient to just use my two hardware devices.
I have purchased EZ DRUMMER 2 ('ToonTracks') last week so I am looking forward to using that this year. It has patterns/fills/grooves/song-structures etc. I used Steinberg's GROOVE AGENT 3 before this, but they just released GA4 and it is totally awful and a far cry from its predecessors. So I have changed course here.
The last year has been spent studying FM SYNTHESIS and I am just in the process of uploading many of my Yamaha DX7 self made creations if you care to take a listen on my 'You Tube' Channel (monsterjazzlicks). The first 30 or so uploads, currently, are all dedicated to the DX synth. This forum would not permit me to embed a link?

Ah FM synthesis.....
You've probably heard this:
Additive synthesis - painting in black and white
Subtractive synthesis - painting in colour
FM synthesis - painting blindfold!
I use FM7 for this, with its wonderful instruction manual, about 10 pages for the VSTi and 300 pages for FM synthesis!

Hi Andy,
FM = Fear of Maths!
300 x pages is a very large amount for the FM7 Synthesis explanation! The DX7 manual was barely one third of that! lol

Hi Andy,
I have read around 1,000 x pages on FM related materials last year. And there are still so many things I do not yet fully understand. The DX's have huge potential, but only if you invest the time and energy will you be able to draw upon the vastness of the instrument(s).
Cheers,
Paul
