I can't move this spread chord, if I move it down it just moves below the note- how do I fix it?

Looks like you need to add some space between the preceding bar line and the chord. Does it work if you drag the chord over to the right to leave a gap? You can resize the arpeggio symbol by dragging on the little square 'handle' that appears when you hover on it.

It should work without doing this if you have Magnetic layout on, but maybe your version doesn't have this?

thank you so much for your help but when I tried that it just moved the whole bar along with the notes

Hi,
just select the chord and then press Shift+Alt+Right Arrow (Win) or Shift+Option+Right Arrow (Mac) to move the chord to the right to make room for the arpeggio simbol.
