Getting Sibelius 4 to feel like the older versions

Our school just updated to Sibelius 4 (from 1.3 or 2 or something) and under the old program, it used to play from the selected note, not that bar thing. Is there a way I can disable that bar thing (It's just annoying) and have it behave like it used to???

If by the "bar thing" you mean the playback line, switch off View > Playback Line. To play from the selected note, just hit P (you can't do it by clicking the play button on the Playback window, but hopefully just hitting P on the keyboard is easy enough to remember).
