Hi. I just switched from Finale to Sibelius. So far I have liked the program a lot, but I am missing a FInale feature that I use a lot: Slash Notation.

I need to be able to write music and then make it into slash notation. Let's say I want to have some piano comping when I playback the file- so I record a piano comping. But then I don't want the score to display that comping I recorded, I just want the slash chords with the chords on top of it. This is very easy to do in FInale, but I have been going through many Sibelius forums and I havent yet found a way to do it with it. I am pretty sure there must be a way to do this, its something that I would think any composer using notation software needs often.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

There is a way to do this easily and quickly. It might look a bit complicated, but once your fingers learn the shortcuts it's really fast.

Record or input what you want Sibelius to play back.

Select it and make it into voice 2 (on mac: Shift + Apple + H)

Input quarter notes on the middle line in the first bar, so a B if it's a G-clef. (Shortcuts: N, B, B, B, B if it's a 4/4 bar)

Select the bar, then just select the first voice (Shift, Alt, Apple + 1), and if you have chords written, also select the top tone (Alt, Apple + 1).

Then make it into slash notes (Shift + Alt + 3)

Copy those notes, then select all the bars you want the slash notation in and paste.

Edit:

I found a plug-in to do all of this (AND MORE!) for you:
http://www.sibelius.com/download/plugin ... ?plugin=95

And here you can read how to install plug-ins:
