How do you add ornaments that actually play? I added them using the Symbol box, and they appear but nothing plays. What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

Indeed, the Symbols should be used only in special cases that need no playback.
All ornaments can be constructed from the 2nd Keypad (F9):

- Under the / and * keys of the numeric Keyboard, you'll find the two types of ornaments.
- You can add as much notes as you want
- With the keys of the 1st Keypad (F8), you can select the rhythmic values of the ornament
- Also, if you like, you can add a slur to the ornament, just as you would do with normal notes: hit S (and stretch with the Space Bar).

This type of ornament WILL play back.

Let me know if this helped.

What about mordents and turns? That gives appoggiatura and acciaccatura, trills can be done through the Line menu, just the others - mordents and turns!

Major "Ooops" here, and "Sorry!"

You're right about the other ornaments. You see, I just don't care about playback: I know how it will sound when played live.
Sometimes I *do* have to make a demo and what I then do is this:
- I write the appropriate ornament using Symbols (as you mentioned)
- In voice 2 (or whatever voice I did not use) I write the ornament as it should sound (in the same staff!)
- I pull all the notes of the ornament together (to the left, on top of each other) so the note spacing of Voice 1 is correct
- I then hide the "sounding ornament notes" (Select Voice, then Ctrl+Shift+H)

I know, it's a big workaround but it does the job.
Again, sorry for being incomplete in my first answer.

Be well, Zap

Don't forget the "Ornament Playback" plug-in (Plug-ins > Playback). It only does a restricted range of ornaments, but it might save you some time.
