Is there a way in which I can not have underscores ("_") present when inputting lyrics into a score? Say I have one bar of 3/4 time with quarter notes on each beat.. the lyric is "be ... there", with nothing on the second beat. Therefore, I don't want to have an underscored melisma or dash.

Any help is appreciated. TIA!

Easy. In your example:

Select the note that has 'be' as it's lyric. Ctrl+L, type in Be. Press Esc a couple of times. Select the note that has 'there'. Ctrl+L, type in There.

That way, anything in between the two words doesn't get an underscore etc. Sib treats each note as having a separate 'section' of lyrics with it.

I know that method, but I was hoping there was some way to not go back to the mouse and re-select the next note.

I think the "lyric line", as Sibelius calls it, is an engraving rule it must follow. As Andy says, you can trick Sibelius but you can't force the line to not appear. There is a way to turn off hyphens, but not the lyric line.

If you want no underscore for one or a few situations, turn on Handles in the View menu. There are handles for those underscores, and you can back them up to nothing. I don't know a way to turn them off globally.

If you select the handles, you can also press delete and the lyric lines will disappear. You have to be careful to select the handle rather than the line itself, otherwise the lyric itself will disappear.
