I want to use irregular time signatures in my string quartet, such as 41/2/4 or 31/2/4. Is this really not possible in Sibelius? Every solution also has to count with the individual parts. Changing the 41/2/4 into a 9/8 or a 2+2+2+2+1/8 does not represent the music.

Input in something like 9/8. Hide the time sig, create a fake one with 4 1/2 / 4, then adjust the beaming groups to suit.

Indeed, it works. More precisely: I hide the 9/8 time signature, create two 4's and one 1/2 (technique text, typing alt + 171, bold) and put everything in place. I have al lot of time signature changes and four voices, but with copy-paste it should work pretty well. However I strongly recommend SIbelius/Avid to fix this weakness. Thanks, andyg, for your solution.

Suggestions.

This isn't the official Sibelius Forum. Only two of us answer queries now and I doubt if I will for much longer. Nobody from Sibelius looks in. Find the official forum with a little Googling and post questions there.

You can make suggestions for improvements directly to Sibelius. Google "Sibelius Ideascale" and you'll get there.

This site won't allow me to post links any more, one more reason for me to go! :(
