I still use Sibelius 6 on a Windows 7 computer that must be coming to the end of its useful life. I understand that Sibelius 6 won't work on newer machines and also that you can no longer buy the software outright. Over the years I've paid almost £1,000 for Sibelius and its upgrades so my question is what would I have to do in order to continue using Sib on a new computer and how much would it cost me?

You are wrong on two counts:

1. Sib 6 generally runs quite well under windows 11. However it will not run at all under later MacOS versions.

2. It is still possible to update your support plans to the latest version through a reseller such as Sweet water (in the US)

Thanks, Mike. I've obviously been misinformed about Sibelius 6 not running on Windows 11.

What you can't do is use your existing credentials to register it. There's a procedure that you have to follow, and you'll likely have to use compatibility mode.

I don't know what you mean by compatibility mode. It sounds as if won't be a straightforward operation anyway. I've actually started making XTML files of all my Sibelius files in case I have to move to MuseScore. I'll perhaps seek further information when the dreaded time comes.

It shouldn't be too bad. Compatibility Mode is a Windows feature that allows you to run older software that otherwise wouldn't play nicely with Win 10 or Win 11.

You can install Sib 6.2 on your Windows 11 machine, but you won't be able to activate it. For that, you'll need to follow the instructions on Avid's website for activating older versions. If you have issues, you can raise a case with Avid, or email one of the very helpful Avid people via the official Sibelius chat page. Ingrid Guce and Justin Tokke are two of those - Ingrid was very helpful in getting Sibelius 7.13 activated on this Windows 10 laptop.

And it should work well on Windows 11! Alas those with Macs, older Sibelius versions and recent Mac operating systems are stuck with two options. Either update to a new version of Sibelius or buy a Windows machine and dedicate it just to Sibelius. That's often the cheaper option!

Thanks, Andy. That's very helpful. I'm just glad I don't use a Mac!
