I installed Sibelius 8 on my new laptop, then installed Sibelius Sounds.

All Sibelius can see is General Midi.

And General Midi will not let me export an MP3.

On my desktop all my sound libraries show up under the configuration - setup/

No so on the new laptop. I tried putting in the fodler where the libraries are No luck

I tried Rescan. No luck. Nothing in the preferences has any other configurations.

What can I do?

Fred.

If you installed Sibelius from DVDs, make sure you installed sound files from all the DVDs. Though I don't know if you can get Sibelius on DVDs anymore.

In any event, let the software and sounds install to their default locations. That way the software knows where to find the sounds. If you move folders around, that just makes it worse.

And if you installed from a download rather than from the four disks, did you also download and install the Sibelius Sounds (around 23GB compressed, expanding to over 36GB when installed)? A common mistake is just to download the Sounds Updater. You need to do both things.

I've recently upgraded to Sib 8 via an interminably long download (so Sibelius Sounds ARE installed. But now I'm having problems Sibelius Sounds to play.
Sib Sounds shows up as an active device but all is silent.
I try changing the interface in the audio engine options and still nothing.
What, pray tell, am I doing wrong?

Just downloading the upgrade to Sib 8 (which may well take a long time) doesn't download them. The sounds are a separate download. Did you download them, unzip them and install them? Have you got that huge 36GB+ folder of sounds on your computer?

Hi Andy;
Thanks for the reply.

>Did you download them, unzip them and install them?

I'm quite sure I downloaded them . . . 6 or so hours worth, right? Tho, it could well be the unzipping and installation processes that have eluded me as yet. How is that done?

I suspect I do, but where one the computer would it be stored? And does it make sense that Sib Sounds shows up as an active device in the Playback Devices list?
Thanks again!

There is an installer in the download that you simply run, letting it put the sounds where Sib expects to find them.

Where the sounds are in your computer depends on the OS and also the version of the OS. I can't recall them off-hand but you'll probably find the info on here somewhere or (definitely) on the official Sibelius support pages - http://www.sibelius.com/cgi-bin/helpcen ... ?groupid=3
