Hi,

Most standard drum kit notation uses a cross within a circle notehead on the 1st ledger line above the stave. However, you can only get the circle around the cross notehead if you use a minim or a semi-breve, so for example, this makes it impossible to enter a crash cymbal on beat 4! (or any other beat where a minim would stretch into the next bar!)

Anyone know how to solve this?

Thanks

In Sibelius that sound is, by default, made with Notehead 1. If you use a note shorter than a minim it uses the cross without the circle, so that you can identify the length of the note.

If you really want there to be a circle on crotchets and smaller, you can use House Styles > Edit Noteheads , click on Notehead 1, then Edit, then on the Quarter Note symbol and, finally, Change Symbol.
