Re: Odd rest notation in 12/8 time

No problem. I don't take offence easily. However, the Finns (the creators of the software) and many subsequent programmers and designers are also musicians and they made certain design choices with regard to defaults. You can't change the default behaviour, but if you wish you can laboriously go thr...

Re: Is This Possible?

The transport panel is not (and never has been) for changing the tempo in a permanent way. At best it's a rough and dirty quick fix to test out tempos. real musicians use tempo changes like <q>=120 or <h> = 66 combined with Italian terms like Allegro, Andante etc to set the tempo for each section of...

Re: Ledger lines length on a single passage

The only other option I can suggest, then, might be to use a smaller notehead ([shift][alt]10). Can you try changing this setting (see image)

Re: Ledger lines length on a single passage

The trouble with leger lines is that they are not alterable on a note-by-note basis.

Select the system you want to reduce, open the inspector and change the size under the Bars panel. after you have done this, you should be able to use [ctrl/cmd][shift]n to reset note spacing..

Re: Ledger lines length on a single passage

In a word, no.

Have you tried reducing the staff size (for that passage only) ever so slightly?

Re: First system in part goes off the page

make the page big enough (change it's size to A3 or whatever) until the end of the staff is in position where it can be selected and then press [ctrl/cmd][shift]p (reset position). Next select the whole part and do [ctrl/cmd][shift]u (unlock format) [ctrl/cmd][shift]p [ctrl/cmd][shift]n (reset note ...

Re: Sax transposition

Sib's instrument ranges are often 'conservative' I'm a brass player and I KNOW what my instrument can do on a day-to-day basis, so I KNOW that sib's choices of range are limited. For instruments that I am not sure about, I look up the range elsewhere and ignore sib's restrictions as to register. If ...

Re: Sax transposition

What? Ways of working: 1. Write the whole thing in concert pitch and let sib do the hard work in the parts (turn off transposing score) 2, Make it hard for yourself by writing the sax part at written pitch and the piano in concert pitch. (turn transposing score on). Whichever you use the part will b...

Re: Chord to single notes

My best advice would be to just use renotate performance to re-enter the 32nds.

Re: bold expression text without using command key

You are misunderstanding what Sibelius is doing. When you hold down [cmd] Sibelius uses the special music font to create the (correct) glyph for your dynamic marking. If you look at the text tab you can see that difference in the Music font dropdown. If you select text without [cmd] it says "none" w...

Re: Reducing unplayed bars in Parts

If you are looking at the full score (sibelius defaults to this) then bars are usually NOT collected into multirests. however, if you press w you should see the rests made into multirests. To nake this happen in the score, press [ctrl/cmd][shift]m.

Re: Split system?

For the benefit of others who may get a problem like this: I fixed it by dragging the RH barline of bar 129 to the right! Very counterintuitive! Eventually bar 130 came up to join it and everything went back to normal! The moral of this story is - if the logical thing doesn't work, try something ill...

My email address is no secret it's mike@mike-lyons.co.uk. Feel free to sned me the file. I'm going out in an hour or so (band practice) so it may get to tomorrow. Just to be clear it was bar 130 you selected, not 129?
