Re: Odd rest notation in 12/8 time
Thanks Mike- I've seen that book advertised and thinking of getting it. Funny though isn't it, when you're teaching you're always instructing pupils (say in 6/8 time), to make a quaver rest up to a crotchet and then give the quaver a separate rest. I would never have thought of using 2 quaver rests ...

Re: Odd rest notation in 12/8 time
Perhaps it's a new system I need to learn, what I mean is, am I to believe that the notation (certainly of rests) in sibelius will always be the correct current standard musical convention? Because it doesn't look standard to me that's what I meant- sorry didn't mean to appear rude or anything!

Re: Odd rest notation in 12/8 time
Not at the Royal College of Music Mike!
You would also fail your grade 5 theory if you notated like that.

Odd rest notation in 12/8 time
Can somebody please explain to me the odd way sibelius puts rests in in 12/8 time. For instance got dotted crochet and three quavers at the start of a bar- sibelius finishes it off with 2 dotted crochet rests not a dotted minim!, also when you want a quaver on the 3rd quaver beat, why have two quave...

Re: Sax transposition
Thanks Mike-yep I’m ahead of you on that, as I did look up sax ranges after I saw the red notes. My wife seems to agree with you as she plays sax, and states that some red notes are certainly playable, just a bit more difficult! Perhaps I should simply take a little “off” the top and bottom of the r...

Re: Sax transposition
Thanks Mike- It was just to see how others are working. I knew sib will transpose it- but I keep writing and the red notes keep appearing in the sax part- so I'm constantly going back to full score and transposing the whole thing till the sax plays in range! Think I'll go with your route no'1 -seems...

Sax transposition
Hi all- Just wondered how people go about writing for alto sax and piano.(or alto sax generally) The mess I’m in is that I’ve written a piece in G for sax and piano-(the sax has the lead line throughout.)Now I know all about the transposition of the sax and its range ,I also know that when it’s prin...

Re: exporting duplication
If it's the parts in the export window you meant- there is only one piano and one flute there-a real mystery?

Re: exporting duplication
Have Sibelius not Ultimate Mike- can't find it? Parts is in "invisibles" but does nothing when checked- no option to cancel piano part-or should I be looking elsewhere?

exporting duplication
Hi, Just gort a piece done for Piano and flute. Exported it as a pdf in one file. (Sib gives correct info- 6 pages, no' of staves etc) however after exporting the piano part is duplicated again at the end. Driving me mad- tried re- naming the file- looked at the wildcard % suggestions, tried to expo...

Greyed out text
Hi all, Got some text appearing on my score- wish I could attach an image, but what it is, is a takes the form of- " a wavy line then C 64 127" or wavy line C 64 38 -appears numerous times on the score page greyed out, generally above the staves. I can delete them stage by stage, but wonder when in ...
