Re: How do i make my own synths in Sibelius

Sibelius is a notation app, not a DAW and doesn't have the ability to make synths. So no, it's not possible.

In fact, a DAW probably won't have the ability to make a synth either, but it might have one built in that will do what you want.

Re: Continue slurs from hidden stave

Read that after I'd replied! :)

About time too, I'm sure a lot of people are saying. After umpteen years of faking it, I suppose I've become used to doing it. Still have no pressing reason to upgrade to 2020.1, though the auto-optimising of staves is appealing!

Re: Continue slurs from hidden stave

The usual way to fake a tie like this is to use a non-magnetic slur. It won't play back and there will be some tweaking to do, but you can make it look convincing.

Re: adjust number of staves per page

Don't drag staves if you can avoid it!! Usually a recipe for much heartache until you know what you're doing! So right now - Select All, Unlock Format, Reset Space Above Staves, Reset Space Below Staves. That will let Sibelius flow the music itself and will usually do a pretty decent job of things. ...

Re: "Add Instruments" window too large on my PC screen

Yes, it's a big (excuse the pun) issue that's been reported and discussed quite a bit on the official Sibelius chat pages. (You do know that this is an unofficial site?)

No solution in sight last time I looked in over there, but it's a howler so I'm sure someone in Avid is working on it.

Re: Odd rest notation in 12/8 time

Got the book as a Christmas pressie when it came out but it's too big to fit in the briefcase when out teaching, so I have the super little Dictionary of Music Notation by Alfred Publishing. Usually has what most of my students need to know!

Re: Help with creating a handbell score?

But, AFAIK, only if you have a FULL version of Sibelius, like 6, 7 or, as it's now known, Sibelius Ultimate.

The original cut down Sibelius FIrst, now just called Sibelius, and the new, even more cut-down (and almost useless IMHO) Sibelius First won't let you do much more than producing basic scores.

Re: How do I playback as written, not as recorded

1) google "taming the flexitime beast" - that will give you a lot of information 2) Practise! No, I'm being insulting, there's a difference between playing normally and trying to input something into Sibelius! You need to practise both methods. 3) consider manually inputting the notes, with practice...

Re: Lot of Views...NO Answers

The title of the site brings in new visitors, thinking that it's the official site, of course. Most ask a single question and then disappear - often referred to the official chat pages where they'll get speedier answers from a wider range of people. I think there may possibly now be five regular 'an...

Re: Chord Symbols in Sib 2019

It's not a download, it's a feature built into Sibelius. I can't tell you how to find it in Sib 2019 as I stopped upgrading at v7. Even v6 does everything I need, so I certainly won't be changing up! So I can only suggest that you look in the 2019 Reference Manual for 'legacy chords'. I'm assuming t...

Re: Chord Symbols in Sib 2019

1) nothing should have forced you to upgrade when you moved to Windows 10. Sibelius 6 and onwards will run just fine on it. 2) Use Legacy Chord input and you can write in any chords you like, standard, non-standard, weird, wrong, whatever! :) 3) I guess you're the same person who asked the question ...

Re: Orchestral playback to accompany choir

No, you don't want to do it that way. Score 1st violins on one staff, 2nd violins on a separate staff and so on. You'll have to use a violin section sound for these ensembles. You won't be able to specify seven 1st violins, seven 2nds and so on but the results should be OK. Just don't expect it to s...

Re: Titles missing on parts

Remember that this is not the official Sibelius Forum, despite the title. It's old, a bit clunky and there is no Admin presence to update its software. So it doesn't allow sib as an extension and probably never will. Try zipping up the sib file and see if you upload the zip file instead. Your choice...

Just been playing a piece with an intro in 6/8 with a tempo marking of dotted crotchet = 40. That's not quick! :D
