Re: Note duration vs. intervals - Mac numeric keyboard

Do you have a proper numeric keypad at the right of your keyboard? If so, it should change note and rest durations (as well as lots of other things depending on what 'page' the keypad is on - selected with Function keys), and the number keys above the letters should add intervals above and below a s...

Re: Chord symbol - augmented with added 9th

Use Legacy Chord Input - full explanation in the Reference. It will let you type in exactly what you want without trying to 'interpret' it.

Re: Sibelius and Spitfire Studio Orchestra Soundset

This is the sort of question that's probably best asked on the official Sibelius chat pages.

It's not something I can help you with and I don't know if the other few people on here who answer questions go this deep into soundset editing.

If you only knew how many issues were caused by migration! It's a nice time saver in theory but in practice can be a right PITA!

Re: Can't Activate Sibelius on 2nd Computer

Both of you should try posting the questions on the OFFICIAL Sibelius chat pages. This is an unofficial site and no-one from Avid looks in. The official site: https://www.sibelius.com/cgi-bin/helpcenter/chat/chat.pl?groupid=3 is monitored by Avid and if none of the members can help you resolve your ...

Re: Triplet/tremolo

Yes, there are only about three or four people answering queries on here these days, and we're all busy in our own ways! For me, it's two concerts to rehearse and a bunch of youngsters to get through their exams. So, for instant responses - don't hold hold your breath! :D FWIW, I'd also go with what...

Re: No Midi latency with "Sibelius 7 Sounds" recording live??

The latency isn't due to Sibelius, of course, but the fact that the trial version is set use an audio engine that has latency - the amount is dependent on your system, figures of 750ms using MME are normal, but do look to see if you can set things to Direct Sound (DS) which should make things better...

Re: How to notate this?

That notation looks just fine and it's crystal clear what is to be played. I personally wouldn't change it. The alternative would be to write the C as a crotchet in Voice 2 with a quaver rest and a quaver G above it in Voice 1. Both notes then tied to the C and G in the next bar. Exactly the same ef...

Re: How do i make my own synths in Sibelius

Sibelius is a notation app, not a DAW and doesn't have the ability to make synths. So no, it's not possible.

In fact, a DAW probably won't have the ability to make a synth either, but it might have one built in that will do what you want.

Re: Continue slurs from hidden stave

Read that after I'd replied! :)

About time too, I'm sure a lot of people are saying. After umpteen years of faking it, I suppose I've become used to doing it. Still have no pressing reason to upgrade to 2020.1, though the auto-optimising of staves is appealing!

Re: Continue slurs from hidden stave

The usual way to fake a tie like this is to use a non-magnetic slur. It won't play back and there will be some tweaking to do, but you can make it look convincing.

Re: adjust number of staves per page

Don't drag staves if you can avoid it!! Usually a recipe for much heartache until you know what you're doing! So right now - Select All, Unlock Format, Reset Space Above Staves, Reset Space Below Staves. That will let Sibelius flow the music itself and will usually do a pretty decent job of things. ...

Re: "Add Instruments" window too large on my PC screen

Yes, it's a big (excuse the pun) issue that's been reported and discussed quite a bit on the official Sibelius chat pages. (You do know that this is an unofficial site?)

No solution in sight last time I looked in over there, but it's a howler so I'm sure someone in Avid is working on it.

Re: Odd rest notation in 12/8 time

Got the book as a Christmas pressie when it came out but it's too big to fit in the briefcase when out teaching, so I have the super little Dictionary of Music Notation by Alfred Publishing. Usually has what most of my students need to know!

Re: Help with creating a handbell score?

But, AFAIK, only if you have a FULL version of Sibelius, like 6, 7 or, as it's now known, Sibelius Ultimate.

The original cut down Sibelius FIrst, now just called Sibelius, and the new, even more cut-down (and almost useless IMHO) Sibelius First won't let you do much more than producing basic scores.
