Re: Sibelius fails to load

Ditto to Symphonic Choirs! I reviewed it for a magazine when it came out and it took a very long time to get to grips with it. When I calculated my hourly rate for writing that review it was in the pennies, not pounds. TBH, it's still there on my system, ready to go with Cubase, but I haven't used i...

Re: Sibelius fails to load

Make sure that Sibelius is not using ASIO4ALL. Normally you would look in the Audio Engines window but if it won't load...... IIRC, GM and ASIO4ALL are not compatible. As for Jamulus, I don't know anything about that app. There's propably a forum for that as well! I'd download and install the Sibeli...

Re: Sibelius fails to load

I'd suggest a very careful read about how ASIO4ALL works. https://www.asio4all.org/index.php/help/instruction-manual/ Particularly attention to what it says about NOT using the GM sounds! I haven't looked but there may be an ASIO4ALL forum, and this question is probably best asked and answered there...

Re: Sibelius fails to load

The Sibelius start up sound is nothing to to do with Sibelius' audio system as such, it's just an audio file played by Windows, so if you're not hearing that, it suggests a driver issue with your audio card. The fact that Sibelius stops on 'initialising playback' is another indication of this. Go to...

Re: Edit Live Tempo

Anything is possible , but it will sometimes take longer than re-recording and doing it properly. Without seeing what you currently have on screen in front of you and what you want to do with it, there's no way of giving specific advice. If you download and read through an on line article called 'Ta...

Re: Multirest issues - brackets and circles - workarounds?

Question answered on the official forum. There is no automatic way to do this. It's now on the 'to do' list at Sibelius, but the task will not be simple.

Re: Odd bug makes working impossible

Sounds like you are trying to use v8.2 on Big Sur. If so, forget it, it doesn't work. You need the latest version of Sibelius Ultimate to work with Big Sur. Alternatively, you could downgrade your Mac OS to a version that will allow v8.2 to work, or you can buy a cheap Windows machine that will happ...

Re: Set custom zoom level? (Sib. 6)

The official Sibelius chat pages are very much still alive and kicking, with some of Avid's Sibelius staff monitoring and chipping in from time to time. This forum is the one that's uncared for! Has been that way for years and there are only about three people actually answering questions. V6.2.88 s...

Re: Sibelius 8.7 won't update from 8.3 on MacBook Pro, big Sur 11.5.2

You have three options

1) Downgrade to a Mac O/S that will allow your version of Sibelius to run
2) Upgrade to the latest version of Sibelius Ultimate
3) Switch to Windows, which still allows legacy versions of Sibelius to run

You may not like any of these, but as Mike said, blame Apple.

Re: Appoggiatura is not played correctly

Either attach a Sibelius file that shows the problem, or a screenshot to show how you have notated this section of the music. We've had all sorts of 'user errors', with some people not understanding the way Sibelius works, some not knowing the difference between acciaccatura and apoggiatura symbols ...

Re: Process for signing up to SIBELIUS FIRST

Sibelius First is so stripped down, it's almost useless. Even plain Sibelius isn't much better. The only version of Sibelius worth having is Ultimate and you probably already know how much it costs. I read in your other thread that you have Sib 6 files. I'm not sure that you'll be able to do much wi...

Re: Piano Portato?

You create it exactly as it looks. Put in the staccato dots and then add the slur. I'd call it 'half staccato' or 'semi staccato'. As for playback, I've not tried it. I only ever use Sib's playback as a proof reading tool to ensure that notes and timing are what I want. So input it as I've described...

Re: XML problems between Dorico and Sibelius

I've had Sibelius go bananas when importing some xml files. It hangs and when I restart, it has problems with the audio engine settings, which I then have to carefully reset before it will run smoothly. Why an xml file should do this I have no idea but I can replicate it (though I obviously don't wa...

Re: Aligning bars and bar lines to make them completely parallel

Ditto to what Mike said. This sort of deliberate alignment does indeed make the music harder to read. In particular, it makes it very easy to miss a line of music or even go back a line. Sibelius spent a lot of time, effort and money getting the programme to flow and space the music in a sensible, l...
