OK. I joined this forum only recently, so I hope that it's not too late to help you with this. • Select File > New… or type Ctrl+N to get the New Score dialog box. • From the list on the left, select Choir SATB and click Change Instruments… . • From the Family: list, select Singers . • From the Inst...

You can write a free cadenza, but you'll have to cheat a little. There are essentially two options I know: 1.) You can create time signatures which correspond nicely to the beam groups in the "unbarred" cadenza. After doing this and entering the music, you can then select the time-signature graphics...

Re: How "intuitive" is Sibelius
The first music-publishing program I ever used (for high-school music theory!) was Finale NotePad (a scaled-down, free version of Finale). However, the final project I wanted to do was an arrangement of Frank Zappa's "The Dog Breath Variations," which has several meter changes. NotePad wouldn't allo...

Re: diagram of eyeglasses in the right corner
I have printed my page. But in the right bottom of the page you can see a diagram of eyeglasses. How can I disable this diagram? Another trick I've used is to select the last barline of the page and press Ctrl+Enter (page break). Sibelius puts in the eyeglasses as a way of asking, "Are you sure you...

Partial object erasure options (details within)
One thing I have seen Finale do that Sibelius can't (as far as I can tell) is hide sections of objects (usually ties/slurs) which cross time-signature changes. Suppose you're in treble clef and have to tie middle-line B across a meter change. Chances are that tie will run right over part of the time...

Finer slur control
This is one of the few things I find frustrating about Sibelius (after two years of experience). Finale has several "points of articulation" which can be dragged to create the appropriate slur shape, whereas Sibelius only allows one to alter the endpoints and the curve in general. While Sibelius doe...

I realize this is late in coming, but it's a topic I enjoy, and hopefully someone else can get this info. There are two ways to do a "free-meter" composition: 1.) If you've handwritten the piece already, you can make bars of changing meters based on what makes the original beaming work. • To hide th...

I realize this reply is pretty late in coming, but perhaps this can be a reference for anyone with the same question. There are two possibilities: 1.) If you want a passage to be in the same time signature as the previous (say, a 2/4 passage after one in 4/4 that you wish to change to 4/4), you can ...
