Re: transposing

I've recently been setting up scores for my alto flute, so this is fairly fresh to me. You need to set up an instrument defined as Alto flute and press Transposing score to display and play as on your printed score. If you're starting from scratch, set up a treble staff, and use the Change instrumen...

Re: ficta below note

Sorry, not sure if you do anything but manually align the fictas (fictae?) by eye. Perhaps someone else here, or on the official Sibelius forum may have the solution.

Re: ficta below note

This plugin is rather old and inflexible, and there's no 'add ficta below note' plugin. I think the only way to change the position is through the inspector (Ctrl/Cmd Shift I). You can change the Y vertical position to something suitable, e.g. -5, or simply by dragging. If there are a lot of fictas,...

Re: realize chord symbols :: best practise?

Yes it can be a pain but there's no dynamic interaction. It's simply a plugin you run to create the notes. I normally keep a version without chord realisation (just chord symbols), as well a realised version. If a chord needs changing you can change it on the unrealised version, re-run the plugin an...

Re: Guitar String Notation w/o Bracket

Great, good luck with this. I suggest the second way (creating a new text style) may be the better, more flexible approach, rather than creating a new line style. I seemed to end up with more new line styles than I bargained for (maybe new lines are created as a family?), which I then had to delete.

Re: Guitar String Notation w/o Bracket

Actually, just found an easier way to create a number in a circle. It can be fun playing with settings in Sibelius... Create a new text style, e.g. based on Small Text. Go to Text > Edit Text Styles > Scroll to Small text > New Text Style > Yes. Change the Name e.g. to 'Small Text (circle)' Click th...

Re: Guitar String Notation w/o Bracket

Well, here's one possible answer, now that (I think that) I understand what you want. (Bearing in mind I'm still on Sib 7.5). I presume by 'bracket' you mean the little 'hook' at the end of the line of the string number in a circle. You can edit the string indicators for each string by navigating to...

Re: Pick-up bar in Sib 6

It took me quite a while to get comfortable with adding pick-up bars, so I understand your frustration! If you add an irregular bar at the beginning, as the manual says, you shouldn't lose your titles, headings etc. Make sure nothing is selected by pressing the Esc key (or Mac equivalent) two or thr...

Re: Making staves smaller in versions for different parts

You can do this by going to Add or Remove Instruments (shortcut: I ), and selecting which instrument to have a smaller staff. You can select both piano staves by holding the Ctrl button when clicking. Then tick the Small staff box in the bottom left hand corner of the dialog box, then OK. Not 100% s...

Re: “Send to Sibelius” Issue

Is this because you have multiple verses in your hymn scores? If so, unfortunately there's not much you can do without a lot of messing about. This is down to the way Photoscore handles lyrics, rather than a Sibelius problem. PS will lump all scanned lyrics into one lyrics line, as it has no concept...

Re: Emailing a copy of a score

Have done a google search on this and it seems the emailing feature was disabled in July this year, owing to Avid migrating servers. Not sure if/when it'll be back up, but it seems to have been quite flaky anyway. Shame, but looks like you'll have to email your files in the traditional way with your...

Re: Individual note spacing between staves?

Not sure if you have wide margins on, but that can give you a little more space to play with. Also maybe consider shortening the short instrument names, and removing some of the space after the key sig. Of course these changes will affect the rest of the score, so you'd want to check the other pages...

Re: Set custom zoom level? (Sib. 6)

That's as good a workaround as any I can think of. We all have to deal with compromises at some point.

Sib. 6 is absolutely fine if it does all you need. One thought, for 'future-proofing' - I'd advise converting your files to xml and backing up to an external drive if you haven't already.

Re: Set custom zoom level? (Sib. 6)

Sorry I couldn't help Ander, you may have more luck on the 'official forum': https://www.sibelius.com/cgi-bin/helpcenter/chat/chat.pl?groupid=3 A comforting thing (maybe) is that in Sib 6 you have the option of getting 94% zoom, albeit in a roundabout way. In Sib 7.5 as far as I can tell you only ha...

Re: Set custom zoom level? (Sib. 6)

Not sure if this will help, you may well know this but you can get 94% Zoom by typing 94 in the Zoom drop down box and pressing Enter/Return. To keep this setting, in Preferences > Files, make sure Open at zoom Level is unticked, and the zoom level is 'remembered' next time you open the file (well i...
