Do what I did and build it up gradually. Don't skimp on the PC, CPU speed, amount of RAM and quality of the audio card are paramount. I understand what you say in your post. I start back at a college in the Autumn. Haven't taught there for 8 years, and helped set up their music tech department back ...

Choice of a DAW/Sequencer is a personal thing. Try the trial versions and see which one you like. I did this years ago and started using Cubasis - the entry level product from Steniberg at the time. I upgraded to Cubase soon after and have stuck with it since then. I've used other DAW's like Logic a...

Re: This is a big help in the right direction
Thanks for your help Andy. 1: Don't have funds now, but will find the money as I need the better technology. 2: No, am not familiar with computer programming, but have access to those who are and understand where you are coming from I think. Do you mean that one would be tabulating from a list of v...

First, how deep are your pockets? :D Second, are you up to a bit of programming, as you'll either be using manual soundsets or writing bespoke soundsets for some of them. I'm just waiting on the new Orchestral Strings VSTi from Miroslav Vituos but it's $$$, as are the libraries from East West and Vi...

Just to make sure.... You're not expecting soundsets to make sounds on their own, are you? Soundsets are just sound definitions files that let Sib control the virtual instruments you have installed. You probably know that, but some users don't! What instruments (other than Essentials) have you insta...

My Sib 4 box says Windows and Mac so I guess you'll be fine. You can register Sib on two computers simultaneously but no more than that. As for rendering to audio, Sib 4 can do this if you're using Kontakt Player for playback. You might also consider the upgrade to Sib 6 - it's well worth the price....

You already have a built-in error checker. Two eyes and a brain (plus the required knowledge and experience). :D My students are always banned from using the proof reading tools which, as you say, don't catch everything anyway! They can't take Sibelius into their exams with them, so they learn to to...
