Hello,
I am trying to cut back the latency on my Sibelius 6.2 setup running on MacOS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). Avid suggests switching to an ASIO driver (if it's available) instead of CoreAudio. (BTW, any leads to a reliable ASIO driver will be appreciated). I found one online, (http://www.usb-audio.com) it came with two files, the instructions say to put one file into Extensions of the System folder, and the other into the ASIO driver into the „ASIO Drivers“ folder of the application you want to use it with. Is there such a folder or equivalent thereof in Sibelius? Or maybe you know of another driver that will help with latency issues in 6.2?
Any feedback will much appreciated; I use Sibelius to play along to parts constantly so latency is just a killer.
Thank you,
Ringolivio

If you were on Windows, I could recommend asio4all, but Macs don't usually need special asio drivers. Your soundcard manufacturer will usually have the latest ASIO drivers on their website. AFAIK, ASIO drivers are installed by the OS. You shouldn't have to faff with them.

You can only use an ASIO driver if your audio hardware supports ASIO. If it doesn't, you can't simply install or use an ASIO driver.

Not sure if ASIO4ALL works on Mac OS, but even if it does, it's not a universal panacea. I've heard Mac users say that their OS audio handling is fast enough, but I never use Macs, so I can't confirm that.

In my research on this, I found that ASIO4ALL does not work for Macs - and shouldn't be needed. I'm curious if the OP is using the built-in Core audio or an external sound card?

Thank you for all the responses,
Mike, it's using built-in CoreAudio SoundCard. Maybe that's why I am stuck & can't play along. SOMEBODY H-E-L-P PLEASE!!!!

If you are using Sib 6, I am pretty sure that you should make sure your running programs are at a minimum. Anything else running in the background will interfere with the smooth running of Sibelius. It's also true that an external soundcard is usually better at handling these situations because it has its own separate drivers that can reduce latency.
