Sibelius needs an "Insert Mode" for editing notes.

Perhaps the Executives and Programmers at Sibelius will read this and implement it for version 5.

Imagine how much time (and headache) could be saved if there were a note input mode that allows editing of notes without worrying about note time in a bar, adding bars, or moving half your score just to add one missed note! Here is how I envision it working:

1. User selects staves, instruments, or a passage to be affected.

2. User then clicks on "Note insert mode" (from a drop-down, or shortcut such as "Alt I"). This temporarily turns-off time signatures.

3. A dialogue box pops-up at the corner of the screen stating "Re-bar?" - which the user will click on (or use a shortcut like "Alt R") when finished editing - to re-bar the selected instruments for the entire score!

4. Select a note you wish to change (or remove), or a note adjacent to the point at which you wish to add new notes (using mouse or arrow keys).

5. To change a note, select note length (half, whole, etc.) from numeric keypad. This would make the selected note appear a different color and appear to have the value selected on the keypad, but would not affect any other notes in the score, and would revert to original value if another note is selected. Use arrow keys to change pitch if desired, or “Delete”. Click on "Re-bar?" when finished.

6. To add a note, hold down the Alt key while using the arrow keys to move to the right or left of the selected note. A new colored note would appear adjacent to the original note, its length determined by the numeric keypad. Use arrow keys to change pitch if desired. Add more notes, if desired, in the same manner. Click on "Re-bar?" when finished.

7. To add a selected passage, follow procedure for changing or adding a note (5 & 6 above) after you have selected a passage and copied it via "Ctrl C," and then paste on selected or added colored note. Click on "Re-bar?" when finished.

Such a note "Insert Mode" editing feature would RADICALLY improve the speed and ease of composing with Sibelius. If you agree, please post comments asking Sibelius to implement it.
