Add notes to staff, after whole note chord

Hello,

- Silbelius Ultimate
- Mac: OS X

I am wondering if this can be done:

Copying notation from score I have written on MUCH early versions of Sibelius, I am curious if any one knows how I may
enter whole note chord in Treble Clef, then add shorter, melodic notes after held chord, in the same staff.

Also, I am looking at similar example in Elton John' "Rocket Man"
I try many things, but with no luck ...so far))

I certainly appreciate any, and all help, someone may offer!

Thank you,
-cMorr

A 4/4 bar will only hold 4 quarters worth of music (2 halfs, one whole etc)

Are you trying to add grace notes (appoggiaturas, acciaccaturas?)

You have to add these to the first note in the next bar and then use the inspector to move them into the correct position. This is one of a number of tings that Sibelius does not yet handle very well.

Hello Mike, and thank you for replying!

To illustrate example of notation I wish it input, in my initial reply to you, I try to attach image of Piano Staves from normal song book.
I have no luck doing this))

Thank you again for taking time to reply! I message URL host, and ask how to include picture, then I will reply with relevant information)

You may have more luck if you try to Upload your image file (jpg/bmp) as an attachment (lower part of Post Reply screen).

Hi Moriah,

Look below the main box where you type your message. There's a Tab that says "Upload Attachment". Click on it and you should see a browse button. Don't forget to click "Add the file" once you have added it.

Hello Mike, and thank you for replying!

I attach image of Piano Staves for normal song book.

Above the two staves I capture, they include one additional staff for vox.

I do not think additional notes are written to be 'appoggiatura', or 'acciaccatura'.
I have thought perhaps that (maybe), after original Gm7 is played, and, as pedal holds chord for 3 beats, additional notes are played with same hand(?)

While I have no complaint at all, I suffer Severe TBI, and do not correctly remember many simple things in notation.
I only come across old Sibelius 3 score of my own, and, also, this from normal piano songbook.

Thank you again for taking time to assist me with this)

Sincerely,
-cMorr

OK. This is much easier!

Put the chord in voice 2 and the melodic notes in voice 1.

It might be easier to do the melodic notes first. Enter them as normal. Instead of a rest at the start of the bar place the first note as the top note of the chord as an 8th. Don't worry about it joining to the other notes.

When you have put all the notes in, select the first note and press [alt]2 (top row of keyboard)
The selected note will turn green and flip. You'll get the rest back in voice 1.
NOw change the note to whatever length you want it - in this case a dotted minim (5 and . on the keypad/num pad if you have one)
Press [shift]3 (top row of keyboard) twice to add the lower chord notes.

The cross-staff notes in the 2nd bar are a whole other lesson!

I think it worked)))

Playback sound good, so, I think it should translate to player correctly.
