FIXED: Missing key signature when changing key

Postby musikteknik » Mon Aug 12, 2019 7:45 am

Hello brainers.

I have not had this issue before but for the first time I write an arrangement in the key of F.
In the middle of the song there is a key change. So far so good.
BUT... There is no change of key signature in the horn section.
The instruments is 'Horn in F' - not the 'Horn with no key'.

When I try to google this I only find that the problem has to do with the 'no key' thing.

Instead of the key signatures Sibelius shows a small square.

I have checked with the inspector and the key signatures is set to be visible.
In the pics you can see what I mean.

I dont have a clue how to continue. Any ideas you have will be highly appreciated.

Your Horns are Horn in F (No Key) Go to the very beginning of the piece and use change on the home ribbon to change the horns to Horn in F:
Make sure you can see All Instruments (not just common or band)
Select Horn in F from the list and then click where the instrument name is before the first bar.

Do you see those pale rectangles? That is a key change when the instrument selected is a 'no key' instrument.

It doesn't matter what is shown in the inspector. If you have a 'no key' instrument it will NEVER show a key.

Which tier of Sibelius are you on?

One is never too old to learn.
I thought that the name of the part actually was the same as the instrument (and then a number) but nope... it was not.
Thank you very much for your reply. It did the trick. :-)

Amen to that! It's a poor day, indeed, when you don't learn something new!

You can name a part anything you like, even 'Fred' but it's the underlying instrument that gives it its characteristics.
