Trying to use the scan feature

Okay I downloaded the Sibelius 5 Demo and have been working with it. I wanted to try the scan feature cuz I thought it would be cool to scan a piece of sheet music into Sibelius and then play it back. But there are problems.

Everytime I scan it says something like some problems occurred. Things like some bars being too narrow or else I'll get the Microsoft crash box for PhotoScan.

Then when I go to play it there is no sound. I can see the highlight box move over the bars one at a time but there is no sound.

Kind of a shame I'd really like to see this work. I'm using XP 64 bit as my operating system right now. And Finale won't even install unless you're using XP 32 bit.

Am I dead in the water here or can you recommend some fixes?
