Best way to write brass parts in Sibelius

Hi all,

I am currently writing an orchestral score into Sibelius.

My main issue is about Horns, flutes, trumpets etc... All the staves where in a conductor score the parts are grouped.

For exemple, regarding horns, I want to create a conductor score with horns grouped per 2 (one staff for Horn 1 & 2 and one for horns 3 & 4) as it is usual in a conductor score.

So what is the best way to put this done in Sibelius.

Do I have to create 4 staves, one for each horn and then there is a magic way to group everything together. Or do I need to use the multiple voices feature. But last time I have done that, I couldn't extract separate parts for Horn 1 and 2 when I want to print them.

Thanks a lot for your help

Hi,

I tried to give you step-by-step instructions, but this stupid board seems to have decided I'm a spammer. If you let me have you email address, or contact me at mike@mike-lyons.co.uk I will send them to you.

Yours,

Mike Lyons

OK. My Bad If there's no f in SHIFT that's bad! ;-)

If you will eventually need separate parts, you WILL need separate (but hidden) staves in the score.
For four horns, you will need to create 6 staves. Separate staves for the parts and a bracketed pair for horns 1&2 and 3&4. Do the main input on the joined staves, using voice 1 for the 1st/3rd horn and voice 2 for the 2nd/4th horn. make sure all the editing is done before you copy the music onto the separate staves. (Don't forget to mute these extra staves in the mixer).

Select Horn 1&2 - Triple click
Filter for voice 1 ([ctrl][shift][alt]1
Copy - [ctrl]c
Paste into the first bar of horn 1
Triple click the Horn 1 &2 staff again. Filter for voice 2 [ctrl][shift][alt]2
{ctrl]c
Select the first bar of Horn 2
Paste into Voice 1 (Home-->Paste-->Paste into voice)

Repeat for horns 3&4.

If you don't have sib 7 or later instructions will be different.
