Selecting notes and time slots

If a beam is selected, can I select the note heads or this time slot with some combination?

[Shift] + drag - can't do.
[Shift][right arrow] - for some reason it selects only first 2 notes, not all.

If you add [ctrl/cmd] to [shift][right arrow], it will select the rest of the bar. There is nothing in-between.

So press the arrow key more than once!

Using rectangles (shift + mouse) would be faster. I need a single combination.
