I am scoring a piece which includes the cajon (percussion). The unpitched two line stave that Sibelius provides only has a sound (in playback) attached to the bottom line. Is it possible to assign sounds to the top line and to the middle space area? If so, any tips on how to assign sounds? Thank you very much!

What version of Sib is this? In 7 it is possible to assign sounds to the top line. If you put a note there and change the notehead to an "x" you will hear a sound. It is the wrong sound, however. I can help you edit the cajon sound in 7, but not any other version.

In 7 it is done through "Edit Instruments". Look in your manual to see if there is something similar. I'll bet there is. My copy of 6 is on a desktop that is packed away. If I get a chance to fire it up, I'll be happy to check it out.

From the menu, select House Styles. Select Edit Instruments. On the left, All Instruments may already be selected. In the next box to the right, select Latin American Unpitched Percussion. Next box to the right double click Cajon (2 lines). Select it in the last box and select Edit Instrument. Down on the left of the new window select Edit Staves. Click the X notehead on the upper line and you will be faced with a number of sounds you can plug into the upper line. Experiment. You can also change the note head. If you leave the x, remember you need to enter an x in the score to get a note to sound. After you are done with the edit, make sure you click Add To Family (top right) or the edit will not be saved. Good luck.

This has worked beautifully!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!!

One last question- would there be any way to get a third sound assigned to the two line cajon?

Again, thank you!

Your very welcome.
You should be able to add a line in the same edit instrument menu. Then go to edit staves and add your sound.
Glad it worked.
Sibelius won't save this new instrument for use in other scores unless you save it as a House Style. I've never done this. It will save it for the score you did the edit in.But it's not hard to edit it each time you use it.
