I'm new to Sibelius. I have some systems on my first page that I want to move closer together in order to make room for text on the bottom of the page. All the other pages, I want to stay how they are. When I move the systems on the first page, it snaps them into certain place and squashes some of my lyrics and things. How do I move the systems where I want them?

Thanks so much in advance :)

Hard to say without seeing the score or knowing which version of Sib you're using, but first step is to fully read 'Layout and Formatting' in the Reference.

Manually dragging systems around usually causes issues when you try to put more on a page than it can really take. Adjusting staff size, margin settings etc, may be more effective than just dragging.

I adjusted the margins where I needed them. I still can't get the systems closer together. There are only 3 systems on the first page. I'd like them to be closer together. That way, I can put some text underneath them. The rest of the pages are good. I made a video that shows what I'm talking about, but it won't let me post links. So you'll have to replace the " (dot) " with "." in the link.

I'm a Mac user.

I'm new with Sibelius7 and I have too this problem of moving systems freely.

It seem to be the «no answer question». I saw many, many time on the net guys having problems to move freely systems and I never found a sastisfying answer.
It was so easy with Finale.

Is there anybody who can tell us how to be able to move freely the systems with Sibelius???

Now I solve the problem saving a pdf version oh my music and after using screen captures I can paste them in my word processing program and there I can put systems where I want them to be. THIS IS NOT NORMAL!

For the rest, Sibelius is great.

What is it you are trying to do. If you want text with musical examples, then no, Sibelius won't do this satisfactorily. Save your music as a series of graphics, and import them into a word doc. You have more control that way, anyway.

Select (for example, in your file) measure 5 of the treble line so that the whole measure is blue. Hold down the shift key and select measure 5 of the lower line. Both measures are blue. Select measure 5 and drag it up as far as it will go. It probably won't go far.
Next select measure 49 (or a measure in the next system)the same way. Drag the system up. Repeat to remove spaces.

Hello Bobp,

I already tried all those measure selecting and dragging, system selecting and dragging... nothing works even if I disable the Magnetic Layout tab in the Layout ribbon menu. It was so easy with Finale.

Thank you BobP

Interesting. It worked great for me. What happens? do they move at all?

There is a Systems Per Page plugin available from the Avid download site that might force systems together

Anyway, it is impossible to move systems the way I want. I can move them a little bit but but not at the place I want them to be, even if there is enough space to place them. Unlocking the magnetic layout do nothing!
I've explained that with a file showing what I wanted. See above.

Try setting the space between systems and then use reset space above and below on the whole score. Setting the staff size may also help, as may the margin widths. It will take a little experimenting to (hopefully) get it right. You might also need to unlock the format on the whole score first.

I suspect the problem is being caused by page justification settings. Change it from 65% to 100%. You will find that you can move your staves up and down however you want. You can get to it through Engraving rules-->Staves or through the ribbon Layout-->Staff Spacing. I have always thought the default of 65% to be ludicrously low!
