Timpani and crash cymbal on the same staff?

So, I need both a timpani beat and a crash hit on the same staff - is there any way to do this that also sounds right? I'm sure I could just input whatever is needed graphically, but wondering if there's any way to do it "for real." One perc player, so no double staves
And sorry if this has already been asked, but I didn't find any mentions.

Not if they are being hit at the same time. You could do an instrument change in the staff (start it as a timpani staff and use instrument change to make it 5 line perc, but it will get very messy if there's a lot of it1

Exactly. Yes, they need to be hit at the same time. I'll just write something and get it graphically correct, which is more important than the sound =)

I think I would write out two lines. Then note that this is for one player. The two lines can be printed on the same part.
