I'm about to update Sibelius Ultimate 2018.1 to version 2018.7. Avid's support staff have advised me I should deregister v18.1, uninstall it, then install v18.7 and re-register it.

In the past, installing the update over top of the previous version didn't cause any problems for me, but I hadn't skipped a half-dozen previous updates. Was I given the advice I received for that reason, or is uninstalling an older version before installing an update what should be done on every occasion? Is that peculiar to Sibelius' requirements, or should that be done with any update (not just Sibelius)?

And if deregistering and uninstalling an older version is necessary, why does this not appear in any Sibelius FAQ or User Guide that I could find?
Cheers...

I'd say it's just a precaution to make sure there are no appman snafus. Let's be honest, it has never been the most reliable or trustworthy piece of software!

You'll get no argument about AppMan from me on that score. And yes, it got updated by the Sibelius 18.7 installer. Avid support didn't say anything about removing the older version first, so that hadn't happened. There were problems with the update, but I saw no indication that they involved AppMan. It wasn't running at the time because autostart was disabled for AppMan to avoid its bad behaviour on my system.
