Default Letter size for parts

Postby SethGlassman » Tue May 07, 2019 5:06 pm

This is making me crazy - how on earth do I set Letter as the default size for all of my parts as well as scores?

I set the preferences to American sizes, I've made a house style where all of the parts were set to Letter size, but no matter what I do when I create a new score the score defaults to Letter but the parts default to A4. It's a real pain in the neck.

Create a house style which has this set up and use it to create all your scores. if you write for different types of ensemble, then you may need several of these and/or MSS papers (Export as MSS).

You might also look to setting up your printer to default to Letter size.

Thanks Mike,

If you look more closely at my original post you'll see I've already created a new House Style with parts and score set to letter size. When I created a new score using that house style it reverted to parts being A4. My printer does already default to letter size.

You need to set up the page size in the parts as well as in the score before you save the house style/MSS paper. They are separate.

I did that. When I create a new score from the quick start I import the new house style I exported yesterday with both the score and parts page size set to Letter. Then I add instruments, select meter, key signature, title, etc. When i hit the create button to open the new score it comes up as I expect to see it with the correct font and all my other defaults. However, when I look at a part the size of all parts has reverted to A4 although the score remains Letter size.

If I don't import the house style in the quick start page but make all the other selections, when I push the create button I get a score set up with default fonts as expected, and the parts page size is indeed letter. BUT, when I then try to import my house style I don't get my fonts and other presets. It's frustrating.

I just tried again, and this morning the quick start page will not allow me to select any house style at all. Something weird is definitely going on.

Try creating a Manuscript paper, using the plugin Export Manuscript Paper unchanged.

What seems to be working is to go to the 'parts' tab>appearance menu>all parts>document tab

You can select letter sizer there or 'same as score', which is fine if the house style for score is set to letter. Then you save the house style and it's creating new scores with parts defaulting to letter size.

Or perhaps Document Setup in the Layout tab.
