As a fairly new clarinet student and Sibelius 7.5 user I find that exporting movies of scores would be a great learning aid for playing along to 2nd clarinet scores.

The arrangements were put into sibelius 7 in concert pitch and I want to play along with my Bb clarinet. How do I match the pitch of the playback to clarinet. I know I can transpose but how many steps, and up or down?

Change the instrument to Bb clarinet using the Change button on the home tab of the ribbon.

Check whether Transposing score is clicked on the same tab. You should not have to manually transpose.

I don't want to draw you in here if its an area you're not interested in but I am writing the score in concert pitch obviously and have the Clarinet instrument selected. If I export to a video file, I want to play along to the piece. Problem is that when I transpose to Bb the audio pitch is not correct. I'm transposing the sound from Concert pitch C to D. Is this correct to achieve the Bb clarinet output?

Clarinet (and trumpet for that matter) parts in the score are usually written at transposed pitch. The music is transposed up by a major 2nd, so if the violins are in C, the clarinets will be in D.

Always glad to be of help. I may be retired, but I'm still a teacher :-)

Mike, when I am actually inputting the notes with Sibelius, do I select the 'Transposing Score' button on the menu ribbon before I start a piece?

Not clear what you mean.

What I do, usually is put everything in in concert pitch (C) and then transpose at the end. - When I am composing.

When I am arranging/transcribing from an existing score I do whatever is most convenient. So, from a full orchestral score I keep transposing score on and input the pitches as they are written in the score. If transcribing from, say, a piano reduction I do it all in Concert pitch (which the piano is in) and push the transposing score button when I'm finished with that part of the work.

Does that help?
