Hi,

Sibelius 6; Windows 10

I've had Sibelius installed for some time but rarely use it. Today I was sent a file and tried to open Sibelius but have failed to get past the initial screen.

Messages on startup:

Initialising Playback system

Searching for sound sets and initialising configuration

Then it stops.

Any ideas please?

Thanks,

Lawrence

That sounds like it has a problem with either a VST or something in your playback system - a device driver, maybe. Move all of your vsts (just the dlls) to a different directory then start sib. If it runs successfully, start adding your vsts back in until it breaks again and you'll have found the culprit. it is quite possible that you have a 64 bit vst causing this. Sib 6 will crash if you try to use anything other than a 32 bit one.

Remember to stop sibelius each time and make sure there isn't a copy of sib running in the background. You can check this with windows task manager.
Sib 6.2, 7.5 and 2023.6, Windows 11, 32GB RAM, 16TB 7200RPM Storage, 2TB SSD, Note Performer 3.3.2, EWQLSO, EWQLSC, Harmony Assistant and some others. mike@mike-lyons.co.uk

They will be under C:\Program Files (x86)\Sibelius Software\VSTPlugins and they will all be .dll files usually with the name of the library (eg. noteperformer32.dll). Don't delete them, move them to a folder (preferably on another drive - pen drive will do). Make sure sibelius is fully quit before you do this.

Only one file in the vst folder. I moved it, made no difference and so put it back. Still no joy. Finished up getting an xml file and working in Finale.

I'd still like to get Sibelius running again (seeing as I paid for it).

Thanks.

If it has been working well for a while and has suddenly stopped and there don't appear to be issues with the VSTs then the next port of call is a bad soundcard driver. make sure you sound card drivers are really up to date. Don't rely on Windows, it lies.

Failing that, maybe delete the plogue engine folder. It's in Users\AppData\Sibelius Software. Sib will re-create it if it is missing.

Thanks.

The sound card is working for everything else (if that makes a difference) Sibelius was working the last time I used it about 6 months ago, possibly longer. I'll think I'm going to have to download it onto my laptop and abandon it on my desktop. Thanks.
