I am trying to play a Sibelius composition through my Mac's headphone jack, and it won't. Mac audio preferences>output is set for External Headphones. However, the sound comes through the Mac's built-in speakers, regardless of what preference I set. Other sounds, such as mp3s, come through the headphones. Only Sibelius does not. This is a recent development. What gives? Using Sibelius Ultimate, Version 220.12 build 3117 and Mac 11.2.3 Tnx. --Tom in Texas

Make sure the headphones are setup before starting Sib and that you haven't had sib connected to a different output device before trying to change.

Ok, thanks for that suggestion. I plugged in the phones, made sure System Preferences>Sound>Output was External Headphones then restarted my Mac and launched Sibelius. Same problem. It seems indifferent to which device I select. Always the sound comes from the computer speakers.

That's the Mac OS dialog. What about Sibelius' device selection? Audio Engine Options-->Interface.

Well, that was it. Thanks. I have been using Sibelius nearly ten years, and I have never had this problem before. I was not even aware of Audio Engine Options 'til you pointed it out. Now, will I have to go back to that and change it every time I switch from computer speakers to headphones?

I wouldn't have thought so. I suspect, though, that it depends what your default playback device is set to.

Thanks a lot for this Sibelius guide! I’ve been using this software for several years but have also just got this problem after buying a new Mac.
I always buy branded headphones from reliable shops, and this couldn’t be a headphones issue. I spent a few days trying to figure out what the problem was before googling it. It turns out I’m not the only one who didn’t know how to adjust the settings correctly.
Thanks again for the guide, and I hope it will work flawlessly ever since because I need Sibelius almost every day to put down music notation.
