Hi,

I have Sibelius 7.5, Windows 10, Focusrite Clarett 8Pre USB interface, latest driver.

For some months now, Sibelius won't start up when the Clarett device is connected. I can't get past the splash screen saying "Initialising Playback system" -- Then the screen is gone, and so is Sibelius.

When unplugged, Sibelius uses the Laptop's Realtek ASIO driver, and works fine -- but, of course, with the wrong sound device.

Anybody can help?

Thanks, Rude

Go onto the Focusrite website and find the latest driver for your card. I strongly suspect that the driver is out of date. Windows 10 might report it as being the the latest driver installed, but it lies.

Also, check what sample rate is set. If it has been changed to 48K, change it back to 44.1K. Sibelius does not play well with 48K. I have no idea why, it just doesn't.

As I wrote, I am already using the latest driver. (FW 1195, Driver 4.87.4, Focusrite Control 3.7.1.1917)

Also, both the device and the Sibelius settings are at 44.1kHz (also confirmed by the PlogueEngine_x64.log at startup).

So, that is not an issue here. Any other ideas?

Fot those interested: I downgraded Focusrite Control to version 3.5.0.1754 (glad I still kept that), now Sibelius starts up.

Firmware is still 1195.

I'm glad you got it sorted out. Sometimes updating the driver can be more trouble than it's worth - except when NOT upgrading the driver is more trouble than it's worth! :-D

OK, now, after some weeks of regular restarting trouble, I can be more exact: It doesn't seem to matter WHAT version of Focusrite driver I install, as long as I re-install ANY version.

I have no idea what sinister magic happens every couple of weeks, but regularly Sibelius won't start up, I re-install the Focusrite drivers, and, until now, I always got it to work again. Really drives me nuts because it always takes ten minutes and kills productivity as well as creativity.

Just in case anybody else trips over this issue: It is also enough to reset the running Focusrite module to factory settings via the Focusrite Control application (File->Restore factory defaults).

Which sucks, as, well, then you have the factory settings back, but at least you don't have to restart the computer.
