I've been using Sibelius 6 on 15" Macbook Pro 2014 for many years. I own version 7 but never really found the time to study the radical change of the interface.

Anyway I need a new Macbook now so will bite the bullet re version 6. So what is the latest version of Sibelius and what is best configuration of the new Macbook Pro? I write scores for Full Orchestra and Choirs.

Thank you

No version of Sibelius before 2020.9 will work on any new Mac. The latest version is 2021.12.

That's not the name, but the version number.

The name of the software you MUST purchase is Sibelius Ultimate. Anything else, like plain Sibelius or Sibelius First, would be a massive downgrade from your current version.

Yes, perhaps Andy is right. I should have mentioned that you need Sibelius ULTIMATE 2021.12 to have the same functionality as you had in your Sib 6.

There were some perpetual licence versions being sold at the start of the year. Do a bit of Googling and you should be able to find a source. If not, you're on the subscription model.

If you're happy with what Sibelius 6 and 7 offer, there is an alternative.......

When people have complained that their older version of Sibelius won't work (or even install) under Big Sur, we've given three options.

1) downgrade the Mac OS
2) buy/subscribe to Ultimate
3) get a cheap Windows laptop. Windows 10 and 11 will run almost any version of Sibelius, certainly as far back as 6.2

In your case, could you not just use your current Macbook Pro just for Sibelius?

That is good to know. If not, perhaps they may appear again.

2 years ago I spent €850 repairing my MacBook Pro just to stay on version 6 (then Covid made that repair a waste of money for 2 years). I do not like that version 6 changed at all. At the moment my MacBook simply freezes at random and a while back I thought it was finished. Seems to be behaving itself again but there were days when I had to reboot over a dozen times in an hour. I don't want to keep pumping money into an 8 year old computer.
