Adding Text
If you don't want it to appear on any of the parts, use a staff text (technique/expression/plain text) and precede it with a tilde (~).
If you need it to appear on only one part, use an appropriate text style (as above) but make sure to attach it to the staff it will show on in the score.

I'm using Plain Text and I put the Tilde just to the left of what I typed in just under the name of my score. When I hit exc the text turns gray, but I'm still seeing the text on the 1st Alto part which I don't want. I'm using a Mac. What am I doing wrong?
The only thing that springs to mind is that you may be using an older version of Sib with a MacOS that doesn't support it. Many people have reported ridiculous amounts of weird text issues in this situation.

To reprise: If you are using Sib 8.x on any MacOS later than 10.12 or 10.13 you will experience many weird issues with text.
You have not clearly explained what it is you are trying to do. If you want text to only appear in the score, use Hide-->Show-->Show in Score. Any text so marked will not show in any of the parts.
If this doesn't help, you are going to have to show us what you mean.

That's exactly what I want. I want the text to appear on the first page of the score and not on the parts. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. Where do I find Hide-->Show-->Show in Score? I'm using a Mac computer. My OS is Catalina version 10.15.7. and I"m using Sibelius version 8.4.2. Thanks.
As we said to you. If you are trying to run Sib 8 on any MacOS later than 10.12 or 10.13 you will get these weird text inputting issues. It is because Apple have changed the OS so much that this version of Sib is no longer fully compatible. There is nothing you can do to remedy these weirdnesses except to:
1. Upgrade Sibelius to Sibelius Ultimate 2022.3
2. Downgrade the MacOS to either 10.12 or 10.13
I stress (and people will tell you that I do not defend Avid readily) that this is APPLE's doing. Avid are innocent in this case.
As to where the hide/show is hidden - right-click on the item you want to hide or show and choose Hide or Show from the pop-up menu; or look in the ribbon under the Home Tab-->Hide or Show.
