I want to move a piano double staff from the top of the right page to the bottom of the left page. I read somewhere by deleting the page break at the top of the right page will move that staff to the bottom of the left page and it worked, but now I have another staff at the top of the right page and that one won't move to the bottom of the left page. How would I do that? Thanks.

This how Sibelius justifies the music on each page. It's a bit like a word processor which squeezes as much text (or images etc) onto a page until it can't fit any more on, within the current settings. At some point you'll get an automatic 'page break' and some of the music is forced on to the next page.

It's too big a topic (for me) to go into everything, but some things you can do (which I normally do) are:

- Unlock format (Ctrl A then Ctrl Shift U) to remove all embedded justification markers (page breaks/line breaks etc)
- Layout > Margins > Narrow
- Staff size (I usually use 6.0mm)
- Spaces Between Staves (> 5mm), Systems (7mm)

In Appearance > Engraving Rules > Set Justify staves when at least > 85% full

Try different settings of course until it looks more or less all right.

Ctrl A > Layout > Reset Space Above / Below and Optimise. Hopefully that'll get everything you want on the page.

You might want to add your own line breaks (press Enter on a barline) after some bars to space things out better. I usually save these settings as custom House Styles and import them into my scores, or you could try importing some of the supplied House Styles.

Hope that helps.

Before you do all that, turn off auto breaks. If you don't, Sibelius will keep playing chess with you!

Mike, thanks for your lengthy reply. We're pretty close but not there yet. I'm sending you a screen shot and you'll see what I adjusted the staves to. I would like to bring the top right page staff down and over to the left page. How would I do that? Also, the bottom staff on the left page I can only move down it won't go up an higher. I can't send you both pages the file is too large. So, I try sending you just the left page. Thanks

This is no real use for seeing what is going on. you need to share the sib file (send via the address in my signature.)
I can see that autobreaks are still on. (dotted line break at the end of various staves).

I think you might be replying to KJ. His reply was far lengthier than mine!

Yeah, this stuff about page and system breaks is foreign to me, but I'll keep working on it. The page is starting to look better, not there yet, but better. KJ and Mike thanks for your help. Greatly appreciated.

Mike, looking thru this post again. What is the "sib. file" and where do I find it?

When you create a score, you eventually save it?
When you save the score it gets a .sib extension.

Sibelius automatically saves scores in a folder called Sibelius in your documents folder. Also in your documents folder there is a folder called Backup Scores, which can be very useful.
