Although I have used Sibelius for several years now, I still seem to spend half my time tidying up individual parts, mainly piano or keyboard ones. Chord symbols are a particular problem - despite having magnetic layout selected I still end up with things like this (see screenshot) - what am I missing? Many thanks

Firstly, I'd recommend placing chord symbols above the treble staff rather than between staves, where they can interfere with lyrics, dynamic markings, low or high notes, articulations and so on. You may have a good reason for placing them there, of course. I would never do so! :)

You can opt to left align the chord symbols, rather than have them centred. You might reduce the font size for the chord symbols slightly. You might also consider having fewer bars on some systems, giving the music a bit more breathing space. then select all and reset note spacing.

Anything shown in red like this is a sure sign that Sibelius just can't deal with the horizontal spacing, even with Magnetic Layout in force. Hopefully the above may help and you can set some of these parameters before you start inputting the notes.

You can also opt to change the default position for Chord symbols in this dialog:
