Figurato brackets

I am currently inputting editorial figured bass using brackets. When I type shift-control-8 followed by 6 – which I would expect to result in (6 appearing below the note concerned – the bracket extends down as if Figurato thinks there is a character beneath it. When I follow it was shift-control-9, I get (6) perfectly normally... when I add figures below the following notes and end a sequence of editorials with the closing bracket, it too behaves normally. Does anyone know why this would be?
I use Sibelius Ultimate on a PC.
