Hi, I'm trying to prepare a trio (2 treble and 1 bass clef instruments) for my pupils to fill in the empty parts above the given bass line.
When I hide all the notes in a bar in the treble parts, the spacing automatically adjusts (the notes squash up), any accidentals in a key signature appear before the applicable note, and a whole-bar rest also appears.
All I want is to hide the treble clef notes but retain the original spacing. The bar is 4/4 with semiquavers in the top line, quavers in the middle line and a semibreve in the bass, but the spacing has adjusted to fit the semibreve, even if I only hide either the top or middle line.
Any ideas as to what settings I need to adjust?
Thanks!
Hiding notes on staves
Was spacing for hidden notes implemented in 2023.6? I think it may have been. In engraving rules, there is a setting to allow hidden notes to affect spacing.

Hi Mike
Thanks for the suggestion. I've had a look and the setting to allow hidden notes to affect spacing was already ticked, so the spacing is still adjusting.
However, I've looked at various other engraving rules, and think I've found the solution in Bar Rests: I've unticked 'Use bar rests and multirests when all notes and rests in a bar are hidden' and that seems to have done the trick. I can now hide notes without everything shifting.
Thanks for your help!

You're welcome. That was going to be my next suggestion as I've just had a run-in with that rule. IMO, it needs to default to 'off'!
