Hello, my client recently began to publish with Universal Edition in Vienna. We're going back to some of his earlier works to submit first -- orchestral works that date to 2003 and 2004. I updated them, including changing fonts, margins, paper size, etc. etc. to follow the House Style for Universal Edition. When the composer attempted to upload the submitted scores and parts, he got an error message that there were unsupported fonts. Here is the gist of the message from editorial:
"We have checked all the PDFs that you sent and I am afraid I have encountered the same problem when trying to upload them via scodo.
Trying to upload the score without the front matter is a very good idea, because this often helps to identify the part of the PDF that is the problem. But as this did not work in this case, I have two more recommendations on how to proceed here:
1. To identify which fonts are not embedded in a PDF via Adobe Acrobat, I can recommend the procedure noted on the following page: https://blogs.mtu.edu/gradschool/2010/04/27/how-to-determine-if-fonts-are-embedded/
2. Please note that Type 1 fonts are no longer supported, but that these fonts don't necessarily show up as "unembedded" in Adobe Acrobat. You can find more information about this here: https://helpx.adobe.com/fonts/kb/postscript-type-1-fonts-end-of-support.html
We generally recommend the use of standard fonts. In our sheet music pages, we have long since switched to Times Roman or Times New Roman for all music notation programmes, to prevent font problems."
I looked at the links the tech editor sent and nothing seemed to even remotely apply to the Sibelius scores. The fonts I used were all either TImes New Roman or Opus for the music fonts. So, 1) is this actually an Adobe problem? 2) If it is Sibelius, how do I discover which fonts are unsupported. Assuming that those early fonts were all Type 1, 3) don't fonts automatically update when the scores are reopened, edited and saved?
I guess I'll start there. Any advice I can get to move this project forward would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! Lucinda Ellert, Scoreworks Music Engraving.
