I am a newbie and have just installed Sibelius First and attempting to record from my Yamaha Reface CP. I have things setup and the basic recording is happening, but there is a very significant delay between pressing a key on the keyboard and hearing the note on my laptop and the note placement in Sibelius. It's always a quarter note or eighth note behind the metronome.

I have researched this and read the Avid post which I'm including below. This is discussing the Sibelius Playback configuration.

"If the device's type is MIDI, check it's not your internal sound chip i.e. Microsoft GS Wavetable. This device is very latent and will not be able to play the sound without a considerable delay. In this case choose, from the Playback Configurations, General MIDI (Enhanced) or Sibelius Sounds or you can create a new Playback Configuration with another MIDI device (i.e. your keyboard if it has sounds built in) and this will have a quicker response when you play your MIDI keyboard."

My dropdown menu for Playback Configuration has only one option - General MIDI (Basic). And of course my device is the Microsoft GS Wavetable. So that explains the delay, however I cannot figure out how to add the Enhanced or Sibelius sounds to see if this will help. The information I found online is convoluted and doesn't work. Here's what I found.

"Sign in to your Avid account:
Go to my.avid.com and log in with your Avid account email.
2. Navigate to your products:
Go to "View My Products" and click on "Sibelius Artist" (or Sibelius Ultimate if you have it).
3. Find the Sibelius First Sounds installer:
Click on "VIEW Software Download Links & Product Details" and then locate the "Sibelius First Sounds 7.1.3 Installer".

Of course I do not have Artist or Ultimate. Why should you need to have those versions in order to get First Sounds. Doesn't make sense. In my Download links there's really nothing useful there - a mobile apps download and something else not germane.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. I'm really hoping the answer is not 'You get what you paid for, and you didn't pay for MIDI to actually work correctly" :D

Well, I'm sorry, but the answer is "You get what you pay for; and you pay for what you get!"

Sibelius first is not worth anything. So many useful features are missing that you really shouldn't give it house room.
