MIDI playback suddenly lagging

I got this computer a few years ago and have never had one problem playing MIDIs. A few days ago, all of the sudden my MIDI playback is all lagged. The MIDI will play and be audible, but the sound is completely lagged out. I haven't made any changes recently to any settings, and my computer only has one MIDI output device. It's Microsoft Wavetable SW Synth, and the digital audio output is listed as Reatek HD Audio output when I press "About" in the Sound and Audio Device folder in the control panel. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
