Hi
I am using sibelius (6) for the first time today. I am a complete MIDI virign and need some guidance! I have an old Denon digital piano which has three holes in the back marked MIDI , In, Out and Thru.
I'm using Sib. on a laptop with windows 7.
What do I need to do in order to connect these two together? Is it even possible?
Many thanks!
Help a beginner pls!
You'll need a MIDI to USB adaptor. Some are boxes with cables attached, others are cables with the electronics built in. Get a reasonable one, not a cheap Chinese version!
It will come with any necessary drivers for your computer's O/S, so install them as per instructions.
Then plug in the USB cable to your computer and the MIDI cables to the In and Out ports on you piano. Don't use the Thru. Make sure you get the In and Out the correct way around.
Sibelius should 'see' the MIDI/USB adaptor, but won't show the piano's name or model. Check your Sibelius Reference for details on any necessary setting up instructions.

I have now got my USB/MIDI connection sorted and it seems to be working fine. The only problem is that whatever I play comes up on the score as crotchets (quarter notes) unless I change the note type using the box thing. Is there a way for Sibelius to interpret what I play and put the correct note values in? Many thanks!
Use Flexitime input. But don't expect instant or perfect results - lots of adjustments can be made to improve things!
Section 1.4 of the Reference (page 21 in my copy) has all the info. Read through and digest before you start!
