Importing midi completely breaks the file

I have a large library of midi files composed in Guitar Pro 5 (which play back correctly in Winamp, iTunes (also on a mac), and media player classic. However, when I import these files into sibelius 7, the song sounds completely screwed up on playback. The tempo is all off and everything is a massive mess.

Why can't I achieve reasonable playback through Sibelius?
