I recently upgraded from Sib 5 to Sib 8 and I'm a mac user. Big change going from old Sib to new. When I play back music I entered with my qwerty keyboard the tempo is all over the place, not steady at all. When I enable the metronome it beats out of time. I've added a metronome mark to my score but this doesn't solve the problem. Can someone offer me any troubleshooting advice so I can simply play my music back in tempo? Thanks very much.

Make sure live playback is turned off and go to play->performance where you should set everything to meccanico/straight.

Thanks for those tips, I tried them but still have the same issue. Is there anything else I could try?

I would restart your computer. As a mac user, you are probably used to leaving it on all the time and just shutting the lid? Don't do that. Make sure there is no text in the score that could be affecting playback Swing, Waltz, etc. Even as parts of descriptive text will upset playback. You can turn their playback effect off by unticking all play on pass boxes for that text.

Failing that, you could email me the file and I'll see what I can see.

More questions.
What are your computer specs? OS, ram, 64 bit? Sib 8 requires a more powerful computer than 5 does.

What happens if you change to Sibelius Sounds Lite?

Restarting seemed to have solved the issue. I had restarted only about 1 week ago but apparently I'll need to do it more often!

Often, restarting should be a goto solution. It seems to solve many, many problems with Sibelius.
If you can, you should give NotePerformer a try for playack. It uses much less RAM/Disc than the Sibelius sounds and, IMHO, gives much better results in playback.
