How to turn MP3s of what you wrote back into notation

I have created an mp3 version of my piece not a midi. I did this because it was easier to transfer to others. Problem is, I didn't save the original .sib file. Is there any way to turn an mp3 file created from a sibelius score back into a score? Thanks!

Keep listening to it and transcribe it. Other than that, no - not without spending a large fortune on very sophisticated software.

If you worked on the piece in more than one sitting, Sibelius might have auto saved an earlier copy. Mike would know better than I.

That's an idea I hadn't thought of.

Look in your Backup Scores folder, wherever that is on your machine. Every time you press save, a copy is made in this folder. You might be lucky!

And the very sophisticated software probably won't do it right anyway! Other than very simple melodic lines, audio to midi/notation is a myth!

The #1 ear, and plenty of practice, is the way to go - plus regular backups that don't rely on Sibelius to do the backing up for you!

Did you look in your backup scores folder?

Every time you save ([ctrl/cmd]s) your score sibelius automatically saves a copy in your backup folder. If you set sib up with the default locations, it will be in somewhere like "C:/Users/"your name"/Documents/Scores/Backup Scores" (in Windows). Depending how recently you saved it, you might save yourself a lot of work. You can set sib up in File->Preferences->Files to save these files in a different location of your choice.

It can be very useful if you have a big SNAFU like this. - Of course, you do have to save it from time to time!
