I have Sibelius 8.5.1 and have always just used the built-in sounds, which are adequate to my needs.

I use a MacBook Pro, with OS 10.13.6

Starting just a few days ago the sounds have become horrible - fuzzy and distorted. I haven't changed anything, but suddenly it is un-listenable. Of course my free Sibelius help (from when I upgraded to 8.5) just ran out a few weeks ago.

Any ideas?

When was the last time you did a full restart of your Mac? Restarting should be the first point of call for any sibeius issues - especially if they are related to sound.

Dang! I thought I had done that since the problem arose, but clearly I hadn't, because that fixed it.
