Nudge Note left or right?

Sibelius beginners can discuss all things Sibelius here ("how do I...?").

Arrow keys move the pitch up and down. Can you not move it left or right without copy/paste? Example, I enter a note on the and of 3, but it needs to be on the and of 2. What's the best way to move it? Thanks!

in 7.5, and probably 8, go to file/preferences/note input/snd change snap position to eighth note.

Oops. I misunderstood. As far as I know you can't nudge notes left or right. Is it not quicker just to re-enter it in the correct place?

I'm just getting started. I'm used to notating in DP, which isn't great at notation. It is a full on DAW so I will need to learn some new methods. Just checking.. trying to get things straight before I learn bad habits. Thanks!

A nudge left and right would be helpful.

Except that all you need to do is re enter the note in the proper place. If it won't go where you want, then the snap to needs to be reset to a lower value. If a dotted quarter won't enter on the and of one (or any beat) than the snap to is set from the default quarter note. To enter a final 16th note before the next beat, the snap to has to be set to 16th notes. Or fill the beat with 16ths then enter a dotted 8th rest on the beat. There are several ways to anticipate note placement as there is no nudge.

so, what's the fastest way to get the cursor to the and of 3? It seems I have to:

-select the bar
-hit the half note button which splits the bar into two half note rests
-move right arrow to the second one
-hit eight note to create a couple rests at that value
-navigate to the second one
-paste

Lots of steps. Maybe there is a faster way

To fill an empty bar with eighth note rests select it and press the 3 on the number pad twice.

In Sib 2018 you can nudge a note/group of notes to the right or left using [ctrl][alt] [left/right arrow]

That ability exists in some earlier Windows versions of Sibelius too. I don't know how far back it goes. I can't speak for the Mac versions.

Using the [CTRL-ALT-arrow keys] function will nudge all notes at that metric position. If you need to offset a note from other notes at the same metric position, use the Inspector to adjust the note's x-value. Normal x-value is 0. A negative value will move the note a little bit to the left; a positive value will move it to the right.
Cheers...

It all depends on whether you want to move it rhythmically or just graphically.

The [ctrl][alt]<-/-> doesn't exist before 2018. I just checked and it doesn't work in 7.5.1 I'm not sure which version of 8.x/2018 it arrived in.
